ABOUT ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION :

MGH and New England Organ Bank work together to facilitate all aspects of the organ, tissue and eye donation process. MGH provides timely notification to New England Organ Bank of asystolic deaths and all imminent deaths (potential brain deaths and patients prior to terminal extubation). By working collaboratively together MGH and New England Organ Bank can ensure that all medically suitable patients, who individually have made the decision or the decision is made by their family, will know their opportunities to help others through donation. New England Organ Bank provides 24 hours per day; donor evaluation, family discussions regarding donation consent, the coordination of recoveries of organs, tissue and eyes, and follow-up information regarding donation outcome to the donor family and involved hospital personnel. New England Organ bank is available to educate the MGH community about organ, tissue and eye donation.
