Notice of Change in Location for Patient Discharge from MGH

MGH is preparing to begin construction of a clinical building located just to the side of the Main Lobby, a project which will take 4 years to complete. This construction will limit the number of vehicles we can accommodate at the Main Entrance during our busiest times – 6am to 8 pm Monday through Friday. We have developed a plan to meet the needs of patients coming to MGH or being discharged from MGH during these times. (At all times emergency patients and emergency ambulances will be accommodated at the emergency entrance at the Main Lobby).

Starting August 20th patients who are being discharged with their family or friends will be using the Wang Lobby exit between the hours of 6:00am and 8:00pm Monday through Friday. The Wang Lobby will have comfortable seating and adequate space for patients in wheelchairs waiting to be picked up.

At all other hours (after 8 PM and before 6 AM Monday through Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday as well as holidays) all patients will be discharged from the Main Lobby.

The Volunteer Service, Ambassador Service and Police and Security officers will be working together to ensure the success and efficiency of the patient pick up and drop off processes.

Thank you for your patience as we prepare the campus for this exciting new building. Questions regarding this discharge location plan can be directed to your care provider. If you are interested, please feel free to visit our website www.massgeneral.org/building3c/ to learn more about the new building under construction. For additional questions regarding the new building, please contact Angela Marquez at 617-724-4136 or Denise Palumbo at 617-726-1667.
